Today both of us have acted, pursuant to Committee Rule 16( d), to place the complaint filed against Representative Tom DeLay on the agenda of the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct. Because of the numerous allegations made in the complaint, and our desire that our fact-gathering activities under Committee Rule 16( c) be as thorough as possible, we found it necessary to use the entire 90-day period that the rule allows for these activities. In the near future we will be presenting to the Committee the information we have obtained and recommendations for Committee action on the complaint.
As we noted in our prior statements on this matter, in accordance with Committee Rule 7 on confidentiality, there will be no public comment on this matter from the Committee or its members except in the form of a joint statement by us or by the full Committee. The text of the Committee Rules is available on the Committee Web site, www.house.gov/ethics.
